Indoor heating and air conditioning

Homes and many guesthouses use floor heating (ondol), and the subway, shops and cafés are kept warm in winter — wear layers you can take off. In summer the air conditioning is strong, so bring a light layer for long subway or bus rides.

Rainy or very cold day? Plan museums, markets and indoor attractions.

Yellow dust and fine dust

On high fine-dust days the sky looks hazy. Check the air quality in the morning, wear a KF-rated mask (sold at convenience stores and pharmacies) and keep long outdoor walks for clearer days.

FAQ

What is the best time to visit Korea for weather?

Spring and autumn are usually the most comfortable: mild, often clear, with cherry blossoms or autumn leaves. Check the air quality on spring days.

When is the rainy season in Korea?

The monsoon (jangma) usually runs from late June into July. Typhoons can affect Korea in late summer and early autumn.

What should I wear in Korea in winter?

A warm coat, hat, gloves and thermal layers — wind chill makes it feel colder. Indoors is warm, so wear layers you can take off.

How do I check fine dust in Korea?

Use the official AirKorea service or Naver weather, and wear a KF-rated mask on high-dust days.
